In the first half of this year SJSC Riga International Airport served 1 659 185 passengers, which is 17,4% more than in the same period of the last year.


The state-run JSC Riga International Airport has introduced stricter rules regulating the vehicle parking at the departure terminal.


At the beginning of June this year, the first in Latvia instant photo booth FotoToGo was installed in the check-in lobby of the Riga International Airport. For a long time, the photo booths have been usual at airports, hotels, shopping centres in many world cities; and now everybody in Riga can try it!


airBaltic launches direct flights from Riga to Tampere, Finland, on October 1 of this year. This will be already the fourth destination served by airBaltic in Finland.


Express bus line Airport Express, which is operated jointly by airBaltic and Reval Hotel Latvia, has been improved by increasing the frequency of its operation and introducing an option to pay for a trip online at www.airbaltic.lv when purchasing flight tickets.


When the development projects are accomplished, Riga International Airport will become the region’s second largest airport after Copenhagen, followed by Helsinki and Gardemoen (Oslo) airports. Upon finishing the 5th and 6th phases of development the area of Riga International Airport will become four times larger and the airport will acquire the capacity to handle up to 12 million passengers annually.


Beginning July 1, Riga International Airport introduces a new and improved instant security control system called Fast track meant for airlines’ gold card holders, business-class travelers, domestic flights passengers and flyers with disabilities, as well as for emergency situations.


With the launch of direct flights between Riga and the Armenian capital city Yerevan, Armenia’s national airline Armavia is starting its operations at Riga Airport. Today, July 2, SJSC Riga International Airport hosted the first meeting between the management of the Armavia airline and Latvian media representatives.


In the first four months of 2008 Riga Airport serviced 993 524 passengers, which was 78% more than in the same period handled by Tallinn Airport (558 912 passengers) and 69% more than in the first four months handled by Vilnius Airport (586 375 passengers).


In launching direct flights between Riga and Cologne, German aviation company Germanwings is commencing its operations at SJSC Riga International Airport.
