By a contract notice in the Official Journal of the EU International Riga Airport has invited expressions of interest to be submitted for participation in a joint venture with a view to implement an infrastructure development project at International Riga Airport.


SJSC Riga International Airport supplies technical and intellectual support for ensuring the operations of Ventspils Airport in compliance with the international requirements. Until the beginning of June, six employees from Riga airport will be working at Ventspils Airport to service flights while Ventspils Airport personnel are trained and prepared.


The Latvian airline airBaltic will offer several new routes to regional centres in Scandinavia during the summer season of 2008 – Billund in Denmark, Ålesund in Norway and Kuopio in Finland. The first flight from Riga to Kuopio will be on April 17, the first to Ålesund – on April 20, and the first to Billund – on May 1.


The Latvian airline airBaltic is launching new flights from Riga to Venice, Italy and Nice, France, during the summer season of 2008. The first flight to Nice will be offered on April 17, and the first from Riga to Venice will depart on April 19.


The Latvian airline airBaltic is pleased to announce that company has increased its number of domestic flights to Liepaja, offering flights in the middle of the day on workdays. Flights from Riga to Liepaja will depart at 12:40 PM, while flights from Liepaja to Riga will depart at 1:45 PM.


Riga. The Latvian airline airBaltic will launch regularly scheduled flights to Ventspils on April 11 of this year. Initially airBaltic will fly to Ventspils twice a day on weekdays.


Today, Riga International Airport opened the final remaining border which separated Latvia from the other 24 Schengen Treaty member states. From March 30, border control of travel between Schengen countries has been removed at the airports of the nine new Schengen member states.


In the category from one to five million of passengers serviced annually, Riga Airport experienced the second fastest increase of passengers in 2007 in comparison with the previous year according to a report of passenger traffic just issued by the European Organization of Airports Council International (ACI Europe).


The number of passengers handled by Riga Airport February this year was 221 895, with growth of 24.6% compared to February last year. Tallinn Airport handled 128 759 passengers the same month, while Vilnius Airport - 130 242 passengers.
