Spain’s new airline Iberia Express on 3 July will commence flights from Riga to the capital of Spain Madrid. There will be two flights a week – on Tuesdays and Saturdays.


Today, on 1 June, marking the International Children Protection Day, a special event programme is available to the children of employees of Riga International Airport. The children will have the opportunity to become acquainted with their parents’ workplace and to go on an excursion around the terminal and the airport territory, to visit the Aviation Museum and to participate in various creative workshops.


Twenty years ago Finnair began flying to and from Riga International Airport, resuming regular service between the Latvian capital and Finnair’s hub in Helsinki. A ceremony at the airport today will mark the occasion, while Finnair passengers arriving and departing from RIX will receive special gifts from airport personnel. Passengers will also be offered complimentary champagne on board their flights.


Further to the announcement of the European Commission that security measures at Dublin Airport do not comply with the EC basic standard, all passengers arriving from Dublin at Riga International Airport are subject to the procedure applied to passengers arriving from a third country. Accordingly, transfer passengers arriving from Dublin, their hand baggage and hold baggage are subject to security check. This procedure is not applied to passengers and their baggage, if Riga is their destination.


Riga. According to a recently published study commissioned by IATA, the International Air Transport Association, the aviation industry plays a key role in Latvia‘s trade and economy. According to the study, undertaken by Oxford Economics, aviation accounts for 2.0 percent of Latvia‘s GDP, and the industry supports jobs for 2.0 percent of workforce in the country.


Norway’s low-cost carrier Norwegian tomorrow, on 4 May, will open flights from Riga to the capital of Denmark Copenhagen. The flights are scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.


Riga International Airport serviced 7,519 tonnes of cargo in April, an unprecedented amount to date in the history of the airport. It is 657 per cent higher than last year in April.

As of 1 April the right of management and placement of advertisements in the advertising areas of Riga International Airport will be given to the company JCDecaux – the winner of a 10-year contract. On 3 April at 12.00 Riga International Airport will hold a press conference to inform the media about the plans of JCDecaux regarding the advertising space of the airport.


To celebrate opening of a new route from Riga International Airport to Karlsruhe (Baden Baden) yesterday (March 27) a special cake with a fountain was made due to the fact that Baden Baden is famous of its thermal waters. 23 hot springs daily produce 800 000 litres of valuable water. It is not only the healing water but also the picturesque views that the holiday makers enjoy in this town.
