airBaltic Launches New Routes to Gdansk, Budapest and Bari

With summer on our doorstep, the Latvian national airline, airBaltic, offers travellers three new destinations from Riga, to Gdansk, Budapest and Bari, thereby expanding the area covered by flights towards the Eastern and the Southern Europe.

From 18 April, direct flights to the Polish city of Gdansk will be operated four times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. The airline will operate these flights using Fokker 50 aircraft, and the flight duration is approximately one hour and twenty minutes. In connection with this event, a special cake in the form of a thermometer was prepared for the first passengers on the route due to the fact that the inventor of the Fahrenheit temperature scale, the famous physician Gabriel Fahrenheit, was born in Gdansk, the largest city in Poland.

From 16 May, the airline started operating direct flights to Budapest, the capital city of Hungary, four times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. The airline will operate the route using Bombardier Q400 aircraft, and the approximate duration of the flight is two hours and fifteen minutes. The first flight to Budapest was celebrated with a special cake in the form of a Rubik’s Cube, because the inventor of the popular puzzle is the Hungarian-born sculptor and professor of architecture, Ernő Rubik.

On 4 June, at Riga International Airport, the first direct flight from Riga to Bari was launched. The airline will operate direct flights to the Italian city of Bari twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The route will be operated using Boeing 737 aircraft, and the duration of the flight is approximately two hours and 55 minutes. The first flight passengers were treated to a traditional Italian Margarita pizza.
