Three New Departure Gates Opened

On 1 June at Riga International Airport three new departure gates were opened. They were built to increase the airport capacity of handling the passengers departing to the Schengen area countries.

By rebuilding the airport’s ground handling department staff locker rooms on the first floor in less than four months, three new departure gates have been created with a total floor space of 400 square metres.

“The number of passengers continues to grow, so we are constantly looking for different solutions to help us ensure a convenient service with a limited capacity. The rebuilding of terminal facilities will slightly relieve passenger flow in the departure area,” emphasises Mr Arnis Luhse, Chairman of the Board at Riga International Airport.

Rebuilding work was carried out by two companies, Arčers and Moduls-Rīga, and the total cost of the project was LVL 430,000.
As a result of the creation of the new departure gates, the passenger flow in Departure Area A was eased. From between 9.00am and 12.00pm, travellers to and from non-Schengen states are serviced. For the rest of the day this sector is opened for travellers to and from states within the Schengen zone.
