On 26 April, Skyways airline began operating flights from Riga International Airport to Sweden’s second largest city, Gothenburg.

With summer on our doorstep, the Latvian national airline, airBaltic, offers travellers three new destinations from Riga, to Gdansk, Budapest and Bari, thereby expanding the area covered by flights towards the Eastern and the Southern Europe.

On the evening of 5 May, at Riga International Airport, the Ryanair began operating direct flights from Riga to Rome (Ciampino). In connection with this event, a special cake symbolising one of the most significant Roman historical monuments, the Coliseum, was made for the first passengers on the route.

Since 23 April, it has been possible to fly to the Turkish city of Antalya with Turkish Airlines. Turkish Airlines operates direct flights twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The airline operates the route using Boeing 737-800 aircraft, and the flight’s duration is approximately three hours and twenty minutes.

At the end of April, luggage conveyor belts for oversized luggage were installed in both of Riga International Airport’s arrivals halls, thereby improving the scope and quality of the airport’s customer service.

On 1 June at Riga International Airport three new departure gates were opened. They were built to increase the airport capacity of handling the passengers departing to the Schengen area countries.

From 1 April, a new service is available at Riga International Airport for passengers; new packaging for the transportation of liquids in registered luggage.

On 18 May, the leading airport operator, TAV Airports Holding, opened a fashion shop at Riga International Airport, in the first of the newly rebuilt commercial areas. A new brand, known as ATU, has arrived at Riga International Airport.

At the beginning of April, the campaign “Praise good service!” was completed, during which companies and the general public were asked to pay closer attention to the customer service culture. After the campaign, the most praised enterprises and state and municipality institutions in Latvia were announced. This year, Riga International Airport was ranked amongst the most commended companies, receiving a prize in the “Infrastructure” category.
