In December Wizz Air opens flights to Eindhoven (the Netherlands)

The Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air on 9 December opened a new route from Riga International Airport to Eindhoven Airport in the Netherlands. The carrier will operate flights to this destination twice a week: on Mondays and Fridays.

In honour of this event, the passengers of the first flight were treated to a special cake in the form of a light bulb, because it was in Eindhoven that brothers Gerard and Anton Philips in 1891 established a small electric bulb factory that over the time grew into one of the world’s biggest manufacturers of electric appliances – Philips. The presence of this company probably has been the most beneficial influence on the development of Eindhoven. The company has greatly contributed to the development of other businesses and to the growth of Eindhoven as a major hi-tech and industrial centre. For this reason Eindhoven is often called „the City of Light”.

The new route was opened by Aldis Mūrnieks, Member of the Board of Riga International Airport, and John Stephenson, Executive Vice President of Wizz Air. The cake in the form of a light bulb won the title the Cake of the Week from the significant industry weekly anna.aero.
