Riga International Airport wins a prize for good service, the Silver category of the Sustainability Index and the status of a Family-Friendly Company

In the second quarter of 2012 Riga International airport received three awards of the national scale.

The campaign „Praise good service!” that had lasted from 1 -31 March was closed by distribution of awards to the most commended companies that in 2012 had maintained high quality of their services. Riga International Airport for the second consecutive year won the title of the most commended company 2012 in the category „Infrastructure”.

During the campaign the companies were assessed not only by the general public, but also by experts: the client service improvement company DIVE Latvia conducting the „Mystery Shopper’s” survey, the Commerce and Industry Chamber of Latvia and the Information and Communication Technology Association of Latvia.

On 25 May 2012 the participants of the Sustainability Index initiative received assessment in five areas of sustainable activity. Riga International Airport participating in the initiative for the second time has achieved the Silver level.

Facts about the Sustainability Index initiative:
Based on an internationally recognized methodology, the Sustainability Index is a tool of assessment of companies in five areas: the company’s strategy, work environment, market relations, impact on the environment and society. The initiative was launched by the social partners on the national level – the Free Trade Union Association and the Employers’ Confederation of Latvia. The methodology and project management of the Sustainability Index is provided by the Institute of Corporate Sustainability and Social Responsibility. In the Sustainability Index the companies are ranked according to the Bronze, Silver, Golden and since 2012 – also Platinum category.

To give due recognition to the employers whose policies and operations are friendly to children and families, on 25 May 2012 the Ministry of Welfare (MW) distributed certificates of the Family Friendly Company status.

The family friendly companies were sought and assessed in conjunction with the Sustainability Index initiative. The MW grants the status to the companies implementing family-friendly policies in their business activities as well as in the context of the general public by providing services and appropriate environment.

The main criteria for awarding the status:
• the company’s focus on effective combination of work and family life,
• health care of the employees in the workplace;
• client-oriented services,
• support measures of children and families,
• compliance of the company’s premises and accommodation for children’s needs,
• care for clients.
