Riga Airport welcomes its seven millionth transit/transfer passenger

On 18 July, Riga International Airport welcomed its seven millionth transit/transfer passenger since the restoration of Latvia’s independence – Mr Hari Adhikari (Nepal) who arrived at the airport on an airBaltic flight from Munich to Riga, to continue his way to Helsinki.

„Thanks to our national carrier airBaltic our airport is a transit hub,” said Arnis Luhse, Chairman of the Board of Riga International Airport, „and transit/transfer passengers account for a significant share in the current passenger structure of Riga Airport.”

The management of Riga International Airport presented the 7 millionth passenger with an invitation for two persons to visit the airport’s business lounge five times within a year, and with airport souvenirs. From airBaltic Hari Adhikari received business class flight tickets, a travel bag and sports shoes.

The 7 millionth passenger stayed in Riga for only 25 minutes. He complimented Riga Airport and told that he had just received his master’s degree in Munich, so this was a pleasant surprise after graduation.

In 2011 the airport handled 5.1 million air travellers, of which 1.9 million were transfer/transit passengers.
