Ongoing Apron 1 Reconstruction Works at the Aerodrome

In March at Riga International Airport, major reconstruction works were commenced on Apron 1 including resurfacing of the pavement and modernisation of the equipment.  The reconstruction works are carried out under the EU Cohesion Fund co-financed project   “Development of the Infrastructure of Riga International Airport”.

According to the schedule, currently the concrete layer is being laid, to be followed by asphalt paving and installation of the ground equipment.

Upon accomplishment of the reconstruction works, the number of aircraft stands on the apron will remain the same, yet the existing stands will be transformable so that in case of necessity large E class aircraft (e.g. Boeing 747) can be placed there, for example, to service delegations.

The reconstructed apron will be properly equipped to handle aircraft quickly, conveniently and, what is most important, safely.

The total costs of the project are roughly estimated at EUR 10.1 million. The construction works are performed by the general partnership ACB & Strabag, and they will be finished by the beginning of August 2015.
