New airlines at Riga Airport in the summer season

SAS Scandinavian Airlines

On 29 March, as the summer season sets in, Scandinavian Airlines SAS returns to the Latvian market with direct flights between Riga and Stockholm, weekly operating up to 18 flights between the two cities: three flights on weekdays and up to two departing flights on weekends.

The first SAS aircraft took off from Riga Airport to Stockholm (Arlanda) on Sunday, 29 March. A surprise awaited the passengers of the flight: they received souvenirs and were treated to a special cake made for this event.

The airline SAS started operations at Riga Airport in 1990, whereas in 2008 it discontinued direct flights due to the economic situation. Since then, the trend of economic activities between Sweden and Latvia has been positive and it has raised the necessity for business trips between the capitals of both countries.    Responding to the clients’ demand, SAS made a strategic decision to start direct flights between Riga and Stockholm this summer – explained Rūta Jucienė, SAS Country Manager Baltic States.
