Thirty one shadows examine the airport

On 11 February, SJSC Riga International Airport took part  in the annual “Shadows Day” when  pupils from various schools learned about the daily work of the airport personnel. This year, 31 pupils took part in the project, “shadowing” 14 airport professionals.

The most demanded profession, attracting 40 applicants, was the flight coordinator’s job. The next most popular jobs were the aerodrome controller with 21 applicants and the firefighter - 12 applicants.

“Before the Shadows Day, I had a rather vague idea of this profession.  It seemed that the flight coordinator mostly works with papers and only checks the work of the personnel. I was pleasantly surprised that the representatives of this profession spend a lot of their time in the aerodrome,” Alisa Uzariņa, “the shadow” of Marina Artemjeva shared her impressions.

“The Shadows Day gives the youngsters a closer insight into their future professions. I had an opportunity to shadow the senior communications specialist of Riga Airport. I think that this job is really tough and responsible and, irrespective of all the difficulties, it is creative and inspiring,” said Edīte Ozoliņa, “the shadow” of Pēteris Tārs.

Thanks to the shadows Day,  Alisa, Edīte and other youngsters found out a lot of new things not only about the professions they are interested in, but also about the airport’s history, organizational structure and aircraft handling.
