Anti-terrorism training „Ikars 2016”

From the evening of Thursday, 8 September, until the morning of 9 September, large-scale anti-terrorism training “Ikars 2016” took place in the territory of Riga International Airport. The training aimed at testing the response abilities of the institutions involved in anti-terrorism measures in case of a terrorist attack to a civil aviation facility.
The training was organised by the Security Police in cooperation with Riga International Airport and other institutions involved in anti-terrorism measures. Representatives of the Security Police, National Armed Forces, Office of the Prosecutor General, State Police, State Border Guard, State Fire and Rescue Service, State Emergency Medical Service, State Joint Stock Company Latvijas gaisa satiksme, the Civil Aviation Agency, as well as Riga International Airport and airBaltic took part in the training. Roles of hostages were played by cadets of the Fire Safety and Civil Protection College and the State Police College. Altogether, around 500 people took part in the training. Material and technical resources of various institutions were tested and evaluated during the training. The scenario of the training allowed testing the response abilities of the involved institutions in case of a terrorist attack, as well as their cooperation in such incidents
