The airport, both as a state-owned company and the largest air traffic hub in the Baltics, has a significant direct and indirect impact on the Latvian economy.

It is for this reason that the principles of corporate governance and sustainable business practices, based on the stakeholders’ desire for socially responsible action and transparency, are integral to Riga Airport’s day-to-day operations and communication.

For Riga Airport, sustainability assessment is an important strategic tool for attaining the airport’s business goals. By setting clear objectives, taking well thought out and sequential steps to attain them, implementing and improving processes and procedures, the airport ensures that its operations are safe and transparent, treating employees, partners, passengers, the surrounding community, the environment, taxpayers and shareholders with great responsibility.

Since 2011, Riga Airport has been participating in the Sustainability Index of the Institute for Corporate Sustainability and Responsibility, improving the company’s performance in the areas of strategic development, work environment, market relations, environment and public influence year by year. In 2019, the Sustainability Index experts for the first time awarded the company the highest, Platinum rating.

Corporate social responsibility and public investment at Riga Airport are defined in the Corporate Social Responsibility and Public Investment Policy.

In turn, the objective of the Riga Airport Sustainable Development Policy  is to contribute to the achievement of the airport’s long-term business goals, strategic aims and targets through responsible and balanced action on the key aspects of sustainability.
