List of prohibited articles

The List of Prohibited Articles comprises the items and substances strictly prohibited for carriage on the civil aviation aircraft or allowed subject to observation of special conditions. Every carrier is entitled to set additional restrictions with regard to prohibited or dangerous articles/substances on its aircraft.
 


The List of Prohibited Articles is approved by Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2015/1998 of 5 November 2015 laying down detailed measures for the implementation of the common basic standards on aviation security, laying down detailed measures for the implementation of the common basic standards on aviation security. Read full text of the Regulation!  

Moreover, the aviation security inspectors are entitled to add other, seemingly harmless items or substances to the category of prohibited articles and substances and prevent their delivery to the airport territory and aircraft.

In order to avoid misunderstandings and conflicts during the security check, we recommend you:

  • when purchasing an airline ticket, consult your carrier’s representative about the effective prohibitions because every carrier is entitled to set additional restrictions with regard to prohibited or dangerous articles/substances on its aircraft;
  • prior to checking it for your flight, read  the visual information displayed in the check-in area on the articles and substances prohibited for air carriage.

Passengers are not permitted to carry the following articles in their cabin baggage:

  • Guns, firearms and other devices that discharge projectiles — devices capable, or appearing capable, of being used to cause serious injury by discharging a projectile, including:
  • Toy guns, replicas and imitation firearms capable of being mistaken for real weapons
  • Stunning devices — devices designed specifically to stun or immobilise
  • Objects with a sharp point or sharp edge — objects with a sharp point or sharp edge capable of being used to cause serious injury
  • Workmen’s tools — tools capable of being used either to cause serious injury or to threaten the safety of aircraft
  • Blunt instruments — objects capable of being used to cause serious injury when used to hit
  • Explosives and incendiary substances, ammunition and devices

Passengers are not permitted to carry the following articles in their hold baggage:

  • explosives and incendiary substances and devices — explosives and incendiary substances and devices capable of being used to cause serious injury or to pose a threat to the safety of aircraft, including:
    • e-cigarettes
    • ammunition,
    • blasting caps,
    • detonators and fuses,
    • mines, grenades and other explosive military stores,
    • fireworks and other pyrotechnics,
    • smoke-generating canisters and smoke-generating cartridges,
    • dynamite, gunpowder and plastic explosives.
