In January and February, RIX Riga Airport handled a total of 818 thousand passengers, which is two percent more than in 2022. Compared to last year, the number of direct passengers increased by 2 %, while the number of transit and transfer passengers grew by three percent.

In February, which is usually a quiet period in aviation, almost 400 thousand passengers used Riga Airport for their travels, of which 81.6 thousand flew through Riga as a point of transfer – 5 % more than in February 2022. The increase in the number of transit and transfer passengers can be explained by the diverse range of destinations offered to travellers even in the winter season by the airlines operating at Riga Airport.

Since the beginning of the year, 7 978 flights have been handled, of which 3 793 flights in February – the result is the same as last year. The average occupancy rate for passenger aircraft in February was 74 percent.

As usual, the national airline airBaltic carried the largest number of passengers (54 % or 214 thousand), followed by Ryanair (28 % or 111 thousand). In February, Lufthansa ranked third with 12 000 passengers.
