Services of Riga Airport are working to reopen the airfield as soon as possible after the accident today when the aircraft runs off the taxiway due to poor visibility. The airfield is currently closed until 5.00 p.m.
Today, on 3 December 2021, due to heavy snowfall, flight BT102 operated by the airline airBaltic flying from Stockholm to Riga with the aircraft Airbus A220-300 ran off the taxiway after landing and turning on the manoeuvring track.
After the aircraft was towed away from the apron to the stand, the services of the Airport are inspecting the taxiway and arranging the location of the accident to resume flying. According to the procedure, investigation of the accident will be conducted.
No passenger was injured at the accident and all 44 passengers were safely transported to the Airport terminal. The aircraft was taken to the aircraft stand to conduct further inspection.

While the airfield is closed, it is possible that flights might be cancelled or transferred to other airports. We hereby ask the passengers who have a scheduled flight to or from Riga International Airport, contact their airlines to obtain information about the scheduled flight.
