27/04/2009

We invite the representatives of mass media to meet the management of International Riga Airport on Tuesday, 10 June, 11.00 a.m. at the VIP lounge of the airport and receive the information about the tender procedure and the goals to be achieved.

Initially, the applicants will be invited for expression of interest in order to assess the potential tenderers’ experience and readiness to participate in the tender procedure for selection of a partner in a joint venture aimed at infrastructure development of International Riga Airport.

„We fully realise the importance of International Riga Airport in the development of the country – both in terms of its international status and of the health of its local economy. To guarantee the success of this mission, we wish to choose a partner who should be able to promote and attain the goal answering the interests of the general public and the state: to create a modern airport infrastructure, convenient and friendly to all the people of Latvia, the international community, airlines and partners,” said Krišjānis Peters, Chairman of the Board of International Riga Airport.

During the qualification process not more than five potential tenderers receiving the maximum score will be shortlisted for the tender procedure. The tender committee will select one applicant and sign a contract with that party on establishment of a joint venture for development of International Riga Airport.

Infrastructure development of International Riga Airport is to be implemented in several stages, including the 5th, 6th and 7th stage, resulting in construction of an entirely new airport incorporating the existing buildings in a single architectural entity.

The 5th and 6th stage of development involve construction of an approximately 500 metres long aircraft terminal with 23 piers in the northern direction whereas at the 7th stage the existing terminal (the airport building) will be reconstructed and integrated in a whole new architectural complex.

Riga Airport infrastructure development project is based on VAS “Starptautiskā lidosta “Rīga”” future development concept. On 26 July 2007 the Council of the airport unanimously approved VAS “Starptautiskā lidosta “Rīga”” Development Programme aimed at handling 20 million passengers a year for which the architectural company SIA “Projektēšanas birojs ARHIS” worked out an appropriate architectural solution.
