Kaspars Gerhards, Minister of Transport, pointed out that the announcements of Wizz Air and several other airlines of opening new or additional flights from RIGA International Airport proved that the decision about the new tariff policy had been right. "The developments in the aviation market of Latvia show the correctness of the chosen strategy. The airport tariff policy is designed to be sustainable, transparent and what is particularly essential today – predictable – contributing to development of RIGA International Airport into a serious transfer hub in the region of Northern Europe,” said K.Gerhards.
Wizz Air, the largest low fare–low cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe announced today that it would enter the Latvian market by opening three new routes from RIGA International Airport starting from 28 March 2010. The initial network will provide flights to London (Luton), Oslo (Torp), and Turku.
