In October of this year Riga Airport proved to be ready to join the Schengen Agreement Zone and has fulfilled all the necessary conditions for joining. Riga Airport:
- Is ready to split the flow of passengers to the Schengen zone states and states that are not joint to the Schengen zone;
- Has ensured the control of passenger movement and transportation on the platforms on their way to and from the airplanes;
- Has developed and equipped, according to all requirements, border control booths and infrastructure around them in terminals designed for the flights to non-Schengen zone states.
The development of the Schengen Convention financial programme started in May 2005. In September this year all procedures were finished in relation to the 162 agreements signed in the framework of 15 projects of the programme. The goal of the programme was to ensure the efficient and quality control and security of the external border of the European Union.
