On 19 January 2010 the Belarusian airline Belavia will launch flights between Riga and Minsk, the capital of Belarus.

The airline Belavia will operate flights between Riga and Minsk three times a week: on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Departures from Riga are scheduled for 15:15 (Arrival in Minsk – at 16:20), while departures from Minsk will take place at 13:20 (arrival in Riga – at 14:25). Flight duration - one hour and five minutes. Belavia will perform flights on CRJ type aircraft.

An essential precondition for the launch of Belavia flights to Riga was the new tariff policy of RIGA International Airport that is one of the lowest and most competitive among the airports of the European capital cities.

Belavia will be the first new airline in 2010 launching flights from RIGA International Airport. On 28 March 2010 another carrier, the largest low-fare, low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe – Wizz Air – will open three routes from Riga: to London (Luton), Turku and Oslo (Torp).

The national carrier airBaltic also provides regular air traffic between Riga and Minsk.
From Minsk Airport Belavia flies to 27 direct destinations in Europe, Russia and the CIS countries. The fleet of the Belarusian carrier consists of 16 aircraft: five Boeing 737-500, three Boeing 737-300, three CRJ- 100/200 LR and five Tu-154M.

Belavia’s market share in the Belarusian air passenger traffic accounts for approximately 65 per cent. The airline performs regular flights to 30 airports in 20 countries.

Belavia complies with the highest international security standards. After the IOSA-IATA Operational Safety Audit the airline in 2008 was entered on the IOSA Registry.
