RIGA International Airport forced to detain a FlyFAL flight to Vilnius

27/04/2009

The Lithuanian airline FlyFAL over the past months has been in arrears with payments to RIGA International Airport for groundhandling services, disregarding the Airport’s repeated invoices to the captain of the FlyFAL aircraft.

The Aircraft of FlyFAL arrived in RIGA International Airoprt on 25 October at 23:50 to perform a turnaround to Vilnius on 26 October at 6:35. In view of avoidance of FlyFAL to pay invoices and uncertain prospects of debt service, ,RIGA International Airport was compelled to take a decision to detain flight No TE709 until full settlement of the Lithuanian airline’s liabilities.

As the provisions of the contract between FlyFAL and RIGA International Airport are confidential, the latter is not authorized to disclose the amount of the accrued debt, but it is significant indeed.

RIGA International Airport extends apologies to the passengers of FlyFAL flight No.TE709 for the inconveniences caused by this forced measure aimed at persuading the Lithuanian airline to honour its obligations to RIGA International Airport in good faith.

It is to be hoped that FlyFAL has a better situation regarding its outstanding payments in the airports of other countries and will be able to fulfill its duties to passengers and airports.
