RIGA International Airport for the first time welcomes more than 400 thousand passengers in a month

In July 2009 RIGA International Airport for the first time in its history of operations exceeded 400 thousand passengers handled in one month. In July 432 216 passengers were welcomed which is 10.6 per cent more than in the same period last year when 390 784 passengers were served.

„It is gratifying that in this difficult situation for the aviation industry in Europe and worldwide we have been able in RIGA International Airport to reach a new peak unprecedented so far, exceeding  400 thousand of passengers welcomed per month. We shall do the utmost this year to achieve another record figure – 4 million passenger traffic per year,” said Krišjānis Peters, Chairman of the Board of RIGA International Airport.

  In the seven months of 2009 RIGA International Airport has extended its welcome to 2 252 063 passengers or 9.9 percent more than in the same period of 2008 when 2 049 969 passengers were served.   In July 5 753 aircrafts were handled exceeding last year’s result for the same period by 7.6 percent. Overall, in the seven months of this year 33 975 aircrafts were handled or 6.3 percent more year on year (31 969 aircrafts).   Cargo handling in RIGA International Airport in July rose by 12.6 percent to 730 tons compared with July 2008. In the seven months of 2009 4 934 tons of various cargo were handled or 16.6 percent up from last year’s result (4 231 t).   Currently the passengers from RIGA International Airport can fly to 70 direct destinations. In the first six months of 2009 six new routes were opened: to Tromso (Norway), Palanga and Kaunas (Lithuania), Linkoping (Sweden), Dushanbe (Tajikistan) and Forli (Italy).
