31 „Shadows” Inspect Riga Airport

14/02/2013

Today, on 13 February, within the framework of the Shadows Day 31 schoolchildren are visiting the airport and having a close look at 20 different professions and the airport operations in general.

Jānis Ozoliņš, the 12th form pupil of Ikšķile Secondary School participating in the Shadows Day said: „Aviation is an important thing in my life and being at Riga Airport evokes special feelings in me because I know how pleasant it is to come back here. The moment when I took off on board a plane for the first time was a point of reference in my life because I realized then that my career would be connected with aviation. Now that I study in form 12 my plans haven’t changed. This year in September I’ll begin studies in aviation engineering programme in the Netherlands. I’m very glad indeed for this chance to watch the everyday work of Riga International Airport staff.”

Aldis Mūrnieks, Chairman of the Board of Riga International Airport, pointed out „The Shadows Day is an excellent opportunity not only for the pupils to find out more about their chosen profession, company or industry, but also for the organisations inspiring the youngsters to study and achieve their goals. The exciting environment of the airport is open both to the pupils and the students regularly practicing at Riga Airport. Last year three most diligent interns joined the ranks of the airport staff.”

On the Shadows Day the young visitors can have a closer look at such airport jobs as an information service agent, a dispatcher, an apron inspector, a passenger service agent, a head of aircraft services, a shift manager of the Ground Handling Department, the Business Lounge agent, the senior public relations specialist etc.
