New Airlines Open Flights in the Winter Season

25/10/2013

As the winter flight schedule sets in at Riga International Airport, two new airlines will start operations – Turkmenistan Airlines, offering direct flights to Ashgabat, and Polet Airlines with flights to Voronezh. More over, for the first time Riga will be connected with Abu Dhabi – a global transit hub.

The new destination Abu Dhabi in the winter season is offered by Latvian national carrier airBaltic in collaboration with an airline of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) – Etihad Airways. As of 16 December 2013 flights on the route Riga – Abu Dhabi will be scheduled four times per week. The new route will provide convenient connection to destinations in Australia, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

Aldis Mūrnieks, Chairman of the Board of Riga International Airport, said: „We are glad that in this winter season we can offer our passengers a number of new services – not only the opportunity to fly to Abu Dhabi but also to try two new airlines – Turkmenistan Airlines and Polet Airlines, carrying passengers to previously unserviced destinations in Russia and Turkmenistan.

In the winter season six other airlines have increased their flights to 18 destinations in total – Amsterdam, Kaunas, Kiev, Lappeenranta, London, Moscow, Paris, Prague, Stavanger, Vienna, Bergen, Copenhagen, Minsk, and Istanbul. For the first time in the winter season flights to Larnaca, Cyprus, will be available. The carrier airBaltic commenced operations on the route this summer.

Riga International Airport in the winter season will offer flights to 70 destinations operated by the following airlines: airBaltic, Ryanair, Wizz Air, Aeroflot, Lufthansa, Norwegian, Finnair, Uzbekistan Airways, LOT, UTair, Transaero, Belavia, Turkish Airlines, Austrian Airlines Group, Turkmenistan Airlines, Polet Airlines, Corendon, SmartLynx.
