Swiss International Air Lines Starts Operations at Riga Airport

On Tuesday, 31 March, the airline Swiss International Air Lines commenced operations at Riga International Airport.  Flights from Riga to Zurich will take place three times a week.

The event in honour of the new airline starting operations in Riga was attended by Arnis Muižnieks, Director of the Aviation Department, RL Ministry of Transport, Andris Liepiņš, Chairman of the Board, Riga International Airport, and Urs Limacher, Director, Head of Sales Scandinavia, Finland and Baltic States at Swiss International Air Lines.

“With the arrival of Swiss International Air Lines to Riga we hope to become attractive to those passengers who until now have not been choosing Riga as their destination,” said Andris Liepiņš, Chairman of the Board, Riga International Airport.

“Today, I’m very pleased to see the first SWISS flight taking off from Riga to Zurich. With that new flight, we meet a wish from our customers for a connection between Switzerland and Latvia. The new route will be served three times weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Passengers on these flights will enjoy highest standards of product and service quality. Ground handling services to the carrier Swiss International Airlines are provided by Riga International Airport.

The airport would also like to remind the passengers that with the summer flight schedule setting in as of 29 March, the airline SAS has returned to Riga International Airport and the carrier Ukraine International Airlines has commenced operations. The new airlines were officially welcomed by the airport management jointly with the Latvian Tourism Development Agency.

Overall, in the summer season from Riga International Airport passengers will be able to reach 87 destinations operated by 21 carriers: airBaltic, Aeroflot, Belavia, Brussels Airlines, Ellinair, Finnair, LOT, Lufthansa, Nesma Airlines, Norwegian, Uzbekistan Airways, Ryanair, Transaero, Turkish Airlines, Turkmenistan Airlines, Ukraine International Airlines, Onur Air, SAS, Swiss International Air Lines, Wizz Air, Smartlynx.
