Italian airline Windjet commences operations at RIGA International Airport

On Wednesday, 10 June, the Italian budget airline Windjet will embark on its first flight from Riga to ForlÌthe North Italian town in the province of  Emilia - Romagna.

The carrier will fly between Riga and  ForlÌ once a week on Wednesdays. Departure from Riga is scheduled at 15:15 (arrival in ForlÌ at 16.50), The flight from Forlì will take place at 10.50 a.m. (arrival in Riga at 14.25). Duration of the flight is two hours and 35 minutes. Airline Windjet will perform flights with the Airbus 320    or Airbus 319 aircrafts.

The town of ForlÌ is within easy reach of such popular holiday destinations as Rimini, Bologna, Umbria and Tuscany.

Windjet also offers convenient domestic flights in Italy  (to Cagliari, Catania, Florence, ForlÌ, Lampedusa, Milan, Naples, Olbia, Palermo, Parma, Pisa, Turin, Venice, Verona), as well as international flights to Belgium, Germany, Romania, Russia, France, Spain, Poland, Czech Republic, Greece, and from now on also to Latvia.  Recently Windjet opened a twice-weekly service to Amsterdam and starting from July it will fly to London and the town of Zakynthos In Greece.

Currently Windjet occupies the 4th place among the Italian carriers in terms of passenger turnover. The fleet of Windjet comprises Airbus 319 aircrafts with 142 passenger seats and Airbus 320 with 180 passenger seats. With two  Airbus 319 aircrafts and ten Airbus 320 aircrafts  Windjet in 2008 carried  2.7 million passengers and in  2007 2.5 million passengers.

The newly opened flight to  ForlÌ now provides the opportunity to fly to four direct destinations in Italy: Rome, Milan, Venice and  ForlÌ. Flights from RIGA International Airport to the towns of Italy are currently operated by three airlines: airBaltic, Ryanair and from now on - Windjet.

Windjet baggage rules are similar to those of other carriers – one bag of max 7 kg can be taken into the cabin and one bag checked in – max 15 kg on domestic flights and max 20 kg on international flights. More detailed information is available at www.volawindjet.it .

Wind Jet S.P.A. is an Italian budget airline based in the town of Catania in Italy fully owned by  Finaria Group. Windjet was established in 2003 after restructuring of Air Sicilia and performed its maiden flight on 17 June 2003 from Catania to Rome  by Airbus 320. Since that time the airline has steadily developed by increasing the number of its domestic and international flights.
