About the project
The agreement signed with the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) on the allocation of funding for the project "Reconstruction of aircraft apron 4 of SJSC Riga International Airport in order to enable dual-use TEN-T infrastructure for civil and military purposes" provides for the reconstruction the hard surface of apron 4 of RIX Riga Airport in an area of more than 80 000 square metres, creating ten A-E class aircraft stands, taxiways and service lanes that can be used in different configurations.
Project implementation deadline: 42 months (July 2024 – December 2027).
Goal
With the development of civil and military cargo handling and railway infrastructure in the vicinity of aprons 4 and 5 of Riga Airport, it is important to ensure the servicing of ICAO class C, D and E aircraft and to provide suitable aircraft stands. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the capacity of apron 4 and ensure its compliance with EU Regulation 139/2014, providing for the dual use of apron 4 for civil and military needs.
Activities
- reconstruction of the hard surface of apron 4 in an area of more than 80 000 m2, building 10 aircraft stands in different configurations (ICAO classes A – E), equipped with built-in electrical power points, taxiways, and service lanes;
- construction of a substation with two independent inputs to ensure the electricity supply of apron 4 lighting and aircraft stands;
- storage areas for the equipment necessary for servicing aircraft in the adjacent areas of the apron;
- construction of the aerodrome lighting system;
- construction of E1 edge lighting of the apron pushback lane;
- construction of aerodrome illuminated signs that meet the requirements of EU Regulation 139/2014;
- reconstruction of four lighting masts and searchlights to ensure a level of brightness corresponding to EU Regulation 139/2014;
- installation of a new video surveillance system and construction of the related electrical networks;
- rainwater drainage system.
