Reconstruction of Riga Airport 4th Apron

About the project

The agreement signed with the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) on the allocation of funding for the project "Reconstruction of aircraft apron 4 of SJSC Riga International Airport in order to enable dual-use TEN-T infrastructure for civil and military purposes" provides for the reconstruction the hard surface of apron 4 of RIX Riga Airport in an area of ​​more than 80 000 square metres, creating ten A-E class aircraft stands, taxiways and service lanes that can be used in different configurations.

Project implementation deadline: 42 months (July 2024 – December 2027).

Goal

With the development of civil and military cargo handling and railway infrastructure in the vicinity of aprons 4 and 5 of Riga Airport, it is important to ensure the servicing of ICAO class C, D and E aircraft and to provide suitable aircraft stands. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the capacity of apron 4 and ensure its compliance with EU Regulation 139/2014, providing for the dual use of apron 4 for civil and military needs.

Activities

  • reconstruction of the hard surface of apron 4 in an area of ​​more than 80 000 m2, building 10 aircraft stands in different configurations (ICAO classes A – E), equipped with built-in electrical power points, taxiways, and service lanes;
  • construction of a substation with two independent inputs to ensure the electricity supply of apron 4 lighting and aircraft stands;
  • storage areas for the equipment necessary for servicing aircraft in the adjacent areas of the apron;
  • construction of the aerodrome lighting system;
  • construction of E1 edge lighting of the apron pushback lane;
  • construction of aerodrome illuminated signs that meet the requirements of EU Regulation 139/2014;
  • reconstruction of four lighting masts and searchlights to ensure a level of brightness corresponding to EU Regulation 139/2014;
  • installation of a new video surveillance system and construction of the related electrical networks;
  • rainwater drainage system.

Funding

The total budget of the project – up to EUR 39 340 882.00 without VAT.

Support intensity (CINEA funding amount) – 50 %. The Airport's self-financing part – up to EUR 19 670 441.50 without VAT.
