Electronic Security Gates to Operate in Riga Airport

18/10/2012

To ensure automatic passenger boarding pass control, electronic security gates (e-Gates) have been installed before border control at Riga International Airport.

This means that passenger boarding passes will be checked automatically, improving the passenger handling service and reducing the time spent queuing. Human resources will also be used more efficiently, because one person will be able to monitor multiple lines.
Currently the e-Gates are operating in test mode, so passengers are asked to be understanding. The process will be monitored and, if necessary, passengers will be assisted by the staff of the Security Department, who will kindly explain the necessary operations to be performed.

It should be noted that the installed system will be able to read both a printed boarding pass and a boarding pass on a mobile device, if such a service is provided by the airline.

Please note that the installation of e-Gates is one part of the project “Introduction of New Services at Riga International Airport” with contribution from the ERDF. Within the project framework the Baggage Reconciliation System (BRS) has already been implemented and the wireless data transmission network (Wi-Fi) has been installed.

The co-financing share of the ERDF is 35% of the applied costs, or LVL 129 641.64. The rest of the project funding is provided by the airport.

The project was carried out from 19 August 2011 to 19 October 2012.

The project is being implemented under the Operational Programme 2 „Entrepreneurship and Innovation”, Priority 2.1 „Science and Innovation”, Measure 2.1.2 „Innovation”, Activity 2.1.2.2 „Development of New products and Technologies”, Sub-activity 2.1.2.2.2 „Development of New products and Technologies – Aid for Implementation of New Products and Technologies in Production”.
