Continuing to improve passenger experience and convenience in the terminal, new charging points for electronic devices have been installed in the B2–B7 gate area at RIX Riga Airport. A total of 264 charging points are now available in this part of the terminal, which is used by the largest number of passengers.
The new charging modules are integrated into passenger seating, allowing travellers to conveniently use their waiting time before departure to charge their phones, laptops, or other electronic devices. In total, 180 standard 220 V power sockets and 84 USB ports are now available.
“Today, being able to conveniently charge a smartphone or laptop while travelling has become an essential part of the passenger experience. By increasing the number of charging points available at passenger seats more than twentyfold, we aim to make waiting time before departure more comfortable and help passengers stay prepared for the next stage of their journey. Practical improvements like these also contribute to the overall airport experience,” says Mārtiņš Lācis, Head of Customer Experience Projects at Riga Airport.
The increase in the number of charging points is one of several practical improvements aimed at enhancing passenger amenities throughout the terminal. This year, Riga Airport passengers can already benefit from a range of other improvements designed to make their journey easier and more comfortable. These include child seats in the security screening area for passengers travelling with infants, a baby changing room with dedicated facilities, a new children’s play area, screens displaying city bus timetables in the baggage reclaim hall, additional ATMs and other amenities. The number of charging points for electronic devices elsewhere in the terminal will also continue to increase.
Through continuous improvements to the passenger experience, enhanced operational efficiency and investment in sustainable development, Riga Airport this year received one of the most prestigious awards in the European aviation industry: the Airports Council International Europe (ACI Europe) award for Best European Airport in the 5–10 million passengers per year category.
