02/06/2011

Three new boarding gates are opened at Riga International Airport terminal today. They are constructed in order to increase the airport capacity of handling the passengers departing to the Schengen Area countries.

In less than four months, after reconstruction of the locker rooms of RIX ground handling staff on the ground floor of the terminal, three new gates have been established with the total floor space of 400 square metres.

„As the passenger traffic keeps growing, we are looking for options to provide additional comfort to the travellers in the current situation of limited capacity. The reconstruction of these premises at the terminal will help minimize the passenger flow at the gates,” said Arnis Luhse, Chairman of the Board of Riga International Airport.

The construction works were performed by the general partnership Arčers un Moduls-Rīga and the total costs of the project were 430 thousand lats.

„On behalf of Riga International Airport I wish to extend our gratitude to the management and staff of Arčers un Moduls-Rīga for successful cooperation and the efforts that resulted in accomplishing the construction works before the term. Thus, we are prepared for the increase of flights at the airport, having the new boarding gates,” A.Luhse added.

The new boarding gates will also help alleviate the passenger flow at the departure gates A. From 9.00 to 12.00 a.m. Sector A gates will welcome the non-Schengen Area travellers and for the rest of the day – the Schengen Area passengers.
