In the upcoming winter flight season, which begins with the switch to wintertime this weekend, RIX Riga Airport will offer scheduled flights to 63 destinations in 30 countries. A total of 11 scheduled airlines will operate flights from Riga, providing travellers with a wide range of options for both leisure and business travel.

"Riga Airport’s route network and airline offer continue to provide passengers with convenient and diverse travel opportunities throughout the winter season. We are pleased to see both new destinations and increased airline capacity on current routes, reflecting steady demand and confidence in the Baltic market," says Ms. Laila Odiņa, Chairperson of the Board of RIX Riga Airport.

This winter season, the route network from Riga will be expanded with two new destinations operated by Latvia’s national airline airBaltic. Travellers will be able to fly to Kuusamo, Finland, and Turin, Italy.

In addition, Norwegian will continue the seasonal services launched during the summer to Bergen, Norway, and Gothenburg, Sweden. Meanwhile, FlyOne Asia, which launched flights on the Riga-Tashkent route this April, will continue serving the capital of Uzbekistan twice weekly during the winter season.

Compared with the previous winter season, several airlines will increase their frequencies on current routes. The Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair plans substantial capacity growth, increasing services as follows: Riga-Dublin: from 4 to 6 flights per week; Riga-Milan: from 6 to 8 flights per week; Riga-Malta: from 4 to 5 flights per week; Riga-Barcelona: from 3 to 4 flights per week; Riga-Malaga: from 3 to 5 flights per week; Riga-East Midlands: from 3 to 4 flights per week; Riga-Leeds: from 4 to 5 flights per week and Riga-London: from 15 to 16 flights per week.

At the same time, airBaltic will increase flights to London from 9 to 10 per week, LOT Polish Airlines will raise frequencies to Warsaw from 17 to 20 weekly services, and Uzbekistan Airways will increase flights to Tashkent from 3 to 4 per week.

Several airlines will once again offer charter flights to popular holiday resorts throughout the winter season. Subject to geopolitical developments, UAE-based carrier flydubai is also expected to resume services between Dubai and Riga.

The transition to wintertime will take place this weekend, during the night from 24 to 25 October, when clocks should be set back by one hour at 04:00.
