Today, 1 November, Riga International Airport welcomed its nine-millionth transit/ transfer passenger since the renewal of Latvia’s independence – Mr Georg Malvius arrived at the airport on the airBaltic flight from Helsinki on his way to Tallinn.
Aldis Mūrnieks, Chairman of the Board of Riga International Airport, said: „Airport Riga has the largest number of transit/ transfer passengers among the Baltic states – 95% this year, proving that the airport is competitive, and providing the basis for sustainable development. In 2013 the number of transit/ transfer passengers at Airport Riga has reached 33%, and 97% of them have been serviced by the national airline airBaltic.”
Martin Sedlacky, Board Member of airBaltic, said: “Airport Riga is the only transit airport in the Baltic region through which passengers are able to reach destinations in Europe, Scandinavia, the CIS, and the Middle East. Due to the excellent collaboration with Airport Riga and its business partners, airBaltic can offer its passengers an effective connection time between flights – 25 minutes, the best in Europe.”
Riga International Airport granted the nine-millionth passenger the opportunity to use the airport Business Lounge five times in the period of one year (for two persons), the national airline presented a flight in the business class and a pair of already legendary airBaltic sports shoes, and the Airport Riga collaboration partner TAV LATVIA presented a gift basket from ATU DUTY FREE stores.
The most popular transit/transfer destinations from Riga Airport are Tallinn, Vilnius, Helsinki, Moscow and Stockholm.
We remind you that in the winter season two new airlines - Turkmenistan Airlines and Polet Airlines -will offer their flights, providing flights to previously unserviced destinations in Russia and Turkmenistan. Moreover, Latvian national carrier airBaltic in collaboration with an airline Etihad Airways of the United Arab Emirates will provide flights to Abu Dhabi four times a week.
Riga International Airport in the winter season will offer flights to 70 direct destinations operated by 19 airlines: airBaltic, Ryanair, Wizz Air, Aeroflot, Lufthansa, Norwegian, Finnair, Uzbekistan Airways, LOT, UTair, Transaero, Belavia, Turkish Airlines, Austrian Airlines Group, Turkmenistan Airlines, Polet Airlines, Corendon, SmartLynx, and Metrojet.
