This April, RIX Riga Airport handled 584 thousand passengers, marking a 1% increase compared to April 2025. The number of flights served also grew, while air cargo volumes continued to show particularly strong growth.
In April, the Airport handled 5,514 flights, 5% more than a year earlier, while the volume of air cargo reached 2,825 tonnes, up 95% from April last year. Overall, during the first four months of the year, Riga Airport handled 2 million passengers.
The number of direct passengers in the first four months of this year exceeded the pre-pandemic level by 6%, although it remained 3% below last year’s figure.
The share of transfer and transit passengers in April was 5% higher than a year ago. In the first months of the year, transfer and transit passengers accounted for 20% of the total passenger volume handled by the Airport, which is 4% more than in January–April 2025.
The national carrier airBaltic remained the largest airline at Riga Airport during this period, carrying 58% of all passengers. It was followed by the Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair and Norwegian.
The most popular destinations from RIX Riga Airport during the first four months of the year were the United Kingdom, Germany, Finland, Italy, and Spain. Compared to last year, passenger numbers saw the strongest growth on flights to Denmark, Belgium, Finland, Turkey, and the Netherlands.
The number of flights increased most rapidly on routes to Turkey, Poland and Denmark.
Strong growth also continued in the air cargo segment. During the first four months of the year, Riga Airport handled 9,757 tonnes of air cargo, which is 61% more than in the corresponding period last year.
