Riga Airport – the leading airport in the Baltic States in February by number of handled passengers

For the period of first two months, 2008, Riga Airport has handled 454 659 passengers, up 22.8% if compared to the same period last year. The number of passengers in Tallinn airport was 251 116, up 13% compared to the figure last year, the increase of the Vilnius airport passengers in the same period - 36.6% (259 824 passengers).

Just as year 2007, February this year the top destination in passenger traffic from Riga Airport is London. The number of passengers traveling to the capital of England in February is 21 920, which is 10.7% of the total passenger number. The second top destination is Dublin, with 14 618 passengers or 7.5% from the total. Other top destinations – Berlin, Stockholm, and Copenhagen - had 6.7%, 5.6% and 5.4% passengers, respectively, from the total number of passengers.

The leading carrier, February this year, is still the national airline „air Baltic”, with 101 110 passengers or 45.7% of the total. The Irish low-fare air company „Ryanair” follows with 60 377 passengers or 27.6% from the total. „Latcharter” is third with 7 240 passengers, followed by „KLM” with 6 171, and „EasyJet Airlines” with 5 940 passengers.

At the moment Riga Airport offers 60 destinations and 17 air companies (“airBaltic”, “KLM”, “FlyLAL”, “Czech airlines”, “SAS”, “Finnair”, “Lufthansa”, “Aeroflot”, “Austrian”, “Uzbekistan airways”, “LOT”, “LatCharter”, “Turkish airlines”, “Ryanair”, “easyJet”, “Aerlingus”, and “Norwegian”), four out of which are low-fare airlines. Armenian air company “Armavia” will commence flights from Riga Airport on March 2008, while the German low-cost air company “Germanwings” on May 2008.

Year 2007 Riga Airport handled 3 160 954 passengers, with the fastest growing passenger numbers in the Baltic States. Riga International Airport is the biggest and most advanced international service hub for aviation passengers in the Baltic States.
