Riga Airport Rings in the Song Festival

21/06/2013

On Tuesday, 18 June, in anticipation of the XXV All Latvian Song Festival and the XV Dance Festival whose motto this year is „Līgo –let it become!” („Līgo – lai top!”), and the Latvian Midsummer celebrations – Jāņi, Riga International Airport jointly with the Latvian National Centre for Culture greeted passengers with a musical surprise.

„The activities inspired by the Latvian culture and art take place regularly at Riga Airport giving our visitors the opportunity to meet Latvia’s creative spirit outside its customary milieu,” said Aldis Mūrnieks, Chairman of the Board of the Airport, „this time it was the mixed choir Pa saulei from Garkalne regional community performing the Latvian folk song „Ģērbies, saule, sudrabota”, who showed us that the airport is a gateway to the exciting world of Latvian culture.”

“The airport at the time of the Song Festival is not just the place of arrivals and departures. It is also the place of reunion – with friends, relatives, home and motherland. Those are stories of meeting again, greeting your folk and experiencing sheer delight. Thousands of Latvian expatriates will arrive from the entire world – to perform and to watch the concerts – and to celebrate the time of togetherness created by the Song Festival and the unforgettable feeling of one breath, one rhythm and one song for all,” said Dace Melbārde, Director of the Latvian National Centre for Culture.

Riga International Airport wishes you a sunny Midsummer celebration and a wonderful time at the Song and Dance Festival!
