Traffic Changes Near Riga Airport During Construction Works

As construction of the Rail Baltica station and railway line continues near Riga Airport, traffic arrangements will gradually change in several locations starting June 9 2025. These changes will affect the road leading to the airport as well as access to the P3 and P4 parking lots, and are related to the installation of steel spans for the railway viaduct.

The first changes will be noticeable for drivers starting June 9. Traffic on the airport access road will be redirected to Torņa Street up to Muzeju Street. This arrangement will remain in place until mid-July and is not expected to significantly affect travel time.

From mid-July, traffic on the airport access road will be restored, but the number of lanes will be reduced from two to one. This setup will last until September and will also not significantly impact travel time.

Additionally, from mid-July until autumn, minor changes will affect Dzirnieku Street in the direction of the business aviation center FBO Riga. At the intersection near the Schwenk concrete plant, traffic will be diverted along a newly built bypass.

Later in the summer, around mid-July, sections of Torņa and Pilotu Streets will gradually be closed. This will temporarily change access to the P3 and P4 public parking areas, with traffic rerouted via Ziemeļu and Muzeju Streets.

These changes are part of a significant milestone in the railway line’s development — the viaduct supports will be connected with 3-meter-high corrosion-resistant steel beams, raising the tracks 13 meters above ground level within the airport area.
