Given the nature of our activities and our impact on the environment, we have defined supporting the local community and its well-being as one of our strategic fields of corporate social responsibility and community investment.

Our cooperation with the local community is based on the principle of ‘Donate time, not money!’ We support the local community through airport staff volunteering their time, skills and talents. We pay for the time our employees give to support the local community according to their salary, thus motivating them to get involved in doing our shared work.

Our cooperation with the local community has historically focused on Mārupe Municipality, where the airport and its infrastructure are located. We actively participate in the Mārupe Business Advisory Council, and we are a member of the ‘Mārupes uzņēmēji’ business association. We also engage in various partnership projects and consultations with Mārupe Municipality as part of improving its infrastructure.

Our cooperation with the municipality is codified in our Memorandum of Cooperation and focuses on providing assistance:

  • for children and young people
  • for persons with disabilities
  • for senior individuals in the municipality

These target groups were selected in consultation with the municipal government and the Social Service in order to help those most in need.

We support children and young people in Mārupe, in conjunction with Mārupe’s schools and the Mārupe Community Centre, we focus on motivating young entrepreneurs by providing annual assistance to the participants of the Mārupe school student business project. Children and young people in the region can go on free tours to the airport and learn about job and career opportunities through educational talks. We regularly organise events and exhibitions in the municipality’s libraries to introduce people to the Latvian aviation industry and the airport’s work.

Our talented staff members bring joy to the region’s senior citizens with concerts and special surprises, as well as winter holiday packages for lonely pensioners and people with disabilities. Seniors love aviation, too, which is why we make it possible for them to take tours of the airport as well, so that they can get to know the airport ‘from the inside’.
