On 27 December 2016, Riga Airport concluded a contract with the Central Finance and Contracting Agency (CFCA) on receipt of CF funding in order to implement the project of Specific Objective 6.1.2 “To Promote Security and Compliance with Environmental Requirements at Riga International Airport”.

With the CF co-financing it is planned to improve security of civil aviation: to construct a landing area for emergency medical aid and search helicopters (helipad), and acquire explosives detection system equipment.

With the CF support it is also planned to implement measures for improvement of Airport’s economic activity : to construct a rapid exit way of the apron taxiway and modernise taxiways, reconstruct access roads of the aerodrome landside area, reconstruct the technical services building, as well as modernise the rainwater drainage system and lighting infrastructure.

The support for Airport modernisation is planned within the framework of the planning document – Priority Axis “Sustainable Transportation System” Specific Objective 6.1.2 “To Promote Security and Compliance with Environmental Requirements at Riga International Airport”.
